Job Summary – Fitter/Welder Role

As a Fitter/Welder based in Auckland (Otahuhu yard), you will report to the Shift Supervisor and play a critical role in maintaining the uptime and reliability of heavy industrial equipment. This includes conveyors, hammer mills, shears, and balers used in the recycling process.

You will perform maintenance, repairs, and fabrication work to ensure all plant equipment operates efficiently and safely. The role requires strong troubleshooting skills, hands-on technical expertise, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Service and repair heavy industrial plant and machinery
  • Perform preventative and breakdown maintenance
  • Carry out welding, fabrication, and oxy cutting tasks
  • Ensure maximum uptime and reliability of plant equipment
  • Troubleshoot and resolve mechanical issues quickly
  • Recommend and implement improvements to plant operations
  • Work with conveyors, hammer mills, shears, and balers
  • Collaborate with other tradespeople to solve technical problems
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment
  • Follow strict safety and environmental procedures
  • Work overtime during breakdowns or shutdowns when required

Required Qualifications and Skills

To be successful in this fitter/welder job in Auckland, you must be a trade-qualified Mechanical Fitter or Boilermaker (Plate Fitter/Welder). You should have strong experience in maintenance, servicing, and repairing heavy industrial equipment.

You must be skilled in MIG welding, arc welding, and oxy cutting. Experience troubleshooting mechanical faults in production environments and working with conveyor systems is essential.

Preferred (Desirable) Skills

  • Forklift license
