Role Overview – Materials Engineer
As a Materials Engineer, you will be responsible for supervising material compliance, overseeing inspections, monitoring daily site activities, and ensuring strict quality adherence to project specifications. You will work closely with the PMC Operations Team, the contractor, and other stakeholders to ensure that material quality and usage align with all project requirements and regulatory standards.
This role involves active fieldwork, documentation, QA reporting, and participation in method statement reviews, punch lists, testing, and commissioning activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor site activities daily to ensure compliance with approved documentation.
- Inspect delivered, stored, and utilized materials on-site for conformance to specifications.
- Check site works against design and project documentation for quality assurance.
- Track compliance with Project Quality Plans (PMC & Contractor).
- Identify and document non-compliances using the NCR process; follow up on corrective actions.
- Support operations teams in reviewing Method Statements, ITPs, and materials.
- Participate in pre-commissioning, punch lists, and testing activities.
- Attend meetings to discuss quality issues and escalate concerns when needed.
- Prepare weekly or ad-hoc quality reports for the Quality Manager and Project Manager.
- Ensure that the contractor follows all health, safety, and environmental regulations.
- Maintain daily records of labor, materials, and equipment usage.
- Conduct regular audits and site inspections to assess material conformity.
- Coordinate with the client during inspection visits.
- Provide technical support in the resolution of site problems related to materials.
- Assist RE/ARE in preparing correspondence and documentation related to site issues.
- Maintain thorough documentation of all tests, inspections, and milestone achievements.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
- Minimum 7 years of experience in construction materials and QA/QC field.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in infrastructure materials QA, preferably in the UAE.
- Expertise in roads, sewerage, water, stormwater, and landscaping materials.
- Solid experience working for PMCs or Engineering Consultancies.
- Familiarity with ISO 9000, ISO 22000, FAMI-QS, and GMP inspection protocols.
- Strong communication and documentation/reporting skills.
- Ability to resolve quality-related issues independently and in a team setting.
- UAE driving license is preferred.
