Job Summary

The Part-Time ESL Instructor will be responsible for providing language instruction to newcomers to Canada. The role includes developing lesson plans based on the LINC curriculum and Canadian Language Benchmarks (CLB), while incorporating speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills. Instructors will assess student needs, track progress, and create a comfortable, culturally sensitive learning environment.

This role involves both in-person and online teaching, requiring adaptability and skill in using platforms such as Zoom, MS Teams, and Avenue. The position is part-time, scheduled Monday to Thursday evenings, with 10 hours of instruction per week.


Detailed Role Responsibilities

  • Assess students to identify needs and goals.
  • Develop curriculum and lesson plans aligned with CLB Benchmarks.
  • Integrate speaking, listening, reading, and writing in lessons.
  • Define learning outcomes for each instructional session.
  • Select and organize appropriate instructional materials.
  • Evaluate student progress using PBLA and CLB standards.
  • Communicate attendance and participation expectations.
  • Plan and lead local field trips for students.
  • Foster an engaging, respectful classroom environment.
  • Promote understanding of Canadian culture and traditions.
  • Maintain administrative records, attendance, and statistics.
  • Participate in workshops, conferences, and staff meetings.
  • Support and train placement students and volunteers.

Required Qualifications and Skills

  • TESL Ontario certificate and TESL Ontario membership (good standing).
  • University degree in adult education.
  • Knowledge and experience with Canadian Language Benchmarks.
  • PBLA training (online or in-class).
  • Ability to teach in-person and online simultaneously.
  • Proficiency with Zoom, MS Teams, Avenue, and LMS platforms.
  • Experience in English language instruction for adults.
  • Commitment to diversity and inclusion.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Computer literacy and excellent writing skills.
  • Creativity and flexibility in lesson planning.
  • Satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Police Check (required upon offer).
