Job Summary – Farm Supervisor Role

As a Farm Supervisor at Smart Farms, you will manage the farm support team and ensure operations run smoothly in line with DAF policies and procedures. Your responsibilities include coordinating field activities such as planting, irrigation, harvesting, and crop maintenance while incorporating agricultural technology to improve efficiency and data collection.

In this role, you will also work closely with internal and external researchers, enabling research trials that rely on Agtech equipment and modern farming practices. From land preparation to chemical application, you will oversee operations while ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards.


Job Summary – Contribution to Research and Innovation

This position is not only about traditional farm management but also about contributing to agricultural research. The Farm Supervisor will assist in implementing business and risk management plans, property management strategies, and operational processes that integrate Agtech resources. Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the farm support team and casual staff according to DAF policies.
  • Support DPI and external clients with the deployment of Agtech at CQSCC.
  • Facilitate research trials onsite and remotely.
  • Carry out agronomic tasks such as land preparation, planting, irrigation, harvesting, and crop care.
  • Incorporate agricultural technology into all farm operations.
  • Maintain and repair farm machinery, vehicles, heavy equipment, and infrastructure.
  • Implement business and property management plans, including rotational programs and irrigation schedules.
  • Collect and analyze farm data for decision-making and reporting.
  • Ensure compliance with scientific protocols and quality assurance principles.
  • Contribute to a collaborative and inclusive work culture.

Required Qualifications and Skills

  • Minimum of a Diploma or Associate Diploma in Agricultural or Animal Sciences (or equivalent).
  • At least 2–3 years of experience in agricultural operations, with a focus on Agtech or smart farming.
  • Supervisory or managerial experience, preferably in a research environment.
  • Current ‘C’ class driver’s licence (mandatory).
  • HR Truck Licence (with the ability to upgrade to HC desirable).
  • Additional licences/tickets advantageous: Remote Pilot’s Licence (RePL), Remotely Piloted Aircraft Operators’ Certificate (ReOC), chemical accreditation (Chemcert), Class R licence, and grader ticket.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and time management abilities.
  • Positive attitude and ability to work effectively in a team environment.
