Job Summary
As the Crewing Manager, you will be responsible for leading the entire crewing department. You will manage all aspects of marine recruitment, compliance with CBAs, agency coordination, budgeting, and crew performance appraisal. You’ll play a pivotal role in ensuring that our vessels are staffed with competent, well-trained personnel who meet all regulatory and operational requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide leadership and strategic planning for the entire crewing department.
- Prepare and manage marine personnel budgets and crew cost estimates.
- Recruit, re-employ, and manage both senior and junior officers/crew.
- Handle crew insurance, compliance with CBA agreements, and P&I coverage.
- Oversee medical appointments and drug/alcohol testing protocols.
- Negotiate CBAs with Seamen’s Unions and present proposals for final approval.
- Liaise with charterers on any crew-related disputes or issues.
- Appoint and audit crewing agents and training providers to ensure compliance.
- Visit vessels and manning agents as required for performance evaluations or investigations.
- Support cadet and trainee recruitment programs.
- Maintain contact and strong working relationships with labor authorities and training centers.
- Ensure the Master has the most up-to-date copy of the CBA.
- Appoint and manage marine travel agents globally.
Required Qualifications and Skills
- Minimum 5 years of crewing management experience, preferably in offshore vessels (OSVs, AHTS, PSVs, etc.).
- Diploma or degree in Maritime Studies, HR, or related fields.
- Experience in crew budgeting, cost control, and international labor laws (especially in the Middle East and Malaysia).
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and negotiation skills.
- Familiar with P&I, CBA, and global seafaring regulations.
- Strong organizational and leadership qualities.
- Must have a network of marine crew members (a plus).
- Experience in ship agency and crewing operations is highly desirable.
