Job Summary – On Call Counsellor (MWSP)

The On Call Counsellor for the Migrant Worker Support Program plays a crucial role in meeting and greeting temporary foreign workers at the airport, providing them with essential information about their rights and responsibilities, and connecting them with available services. This role involves distributing welcome packages, offering emergency assistance, and collaborating with government and community agencies.

Counsellors must be fluent in French or Spanish and able to work flexible hours, including mornings, evenings, and weekends, depending on incoming flight schedules. On-call hours will vary from 0–20 per week and are not guaranteed.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct outreach at airport arrivals and trans-border doors.
  • Promote MWSP services to temporary foreign workers and their families.
  • Provide orientations on rights, responsibilities, and available community supports.
  • Prepare and distribute welcome packages to arriving workers.
  • Assist clients in emergencies (e.g., lost documents, luggage issues, employer connection problems).
  • Collaborate with internal teams, government agencies, and community partners.
  • Meet program targets set by the Program Coordinator.
  • Maintain client confidentiality and provide respectful, empathetic service.
  • Perform additional duties as required.

Required Qualifications and Skills

  • Post-secondary education in marketing, community services, or a related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
  • Experience working with newcomer communities (preferred).
  • Fluency in French or Spanish is required.
  • Knowledge of Ontario’s human services sector and supports for migrant workers (preferred).
  • Familiarity with challenges faced by migrant workers (preferred).
  • Strong interpersonal, cross-cultural, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to lift 8–10 kg when needed.
  • Demonstrated reliability, punctuality, and excellent attendance.

Other Requirements

  • Satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Police Check (completed upon job offer).
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
  • This position does not qualify for LMIA or the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP).
